En una de las intersecciones de la Av. Ricardo Palma y la Vía Expresa hay un edificio, en cuya parte más alta se había colocado un cartel publicitario de la marca Field. Como parte de la publicidad, este cartel emitía una luz en parpadeo: dos veces de manera rápida, la luz descendía lentamente e iba desapareciendo, durante ese momento los edificios a su alrededor se convertían en espectadores de la luz, quedando totalmente envueltos por ella.
Me preguntaba ¿cómo las personas que viven alrededor recibirán esa luz parpadeante? Para dar respuesta a esta interrogante pensaba en la película Enter the void de Gaspar Noé. En esta película desarrollada en Tokio se puede observar, en varias escenas, el interior del departamento del protagonista totalmente inundado por la luz del exterior, y se observa cómo las paredes de su departamento vibran con esta luz.
Inside/ upside es un proyecto que pretende hacer un desglose de la ficción en la cotidianidad, intentando evidenciar por medio del cine nuestra idea de cotidianidad como una construcción. Por ello, se desmontó la rutina diaria en búsqueda de similitudes concretas con determinadas escenas en el cine. De esa manera, encontrar la construcción cinematográfica dentro de la cotidianidad.
A partir de esta reflexión, la pieza muestra de un lado la estructura física del cartel y la luz que emitía, y del otro el resplandor interior que generaba dentro y sobre los edificios.
INSIDE / UPSIDE
At one of the intersections of Av. Ricardo Palma and the Vía Expresa, there is a building that installed at its highest point a billboard advertising the brand Field. As part of the advertisment strategy, this sign emitted a blinking light. After two rapid winks, the light would slowly weaken and began to disappear. During that moment, the buildings around it would act as the light’s audience, becoming totally enveloped by it.
I asked myself, what do the people living nearby think about this blinking light? To answer this question, I thought about the movie Enter the void, by Gaspar Noé. In this film, which took place in Tokyo, you can observe in several scenes how the outside light floods the inside of the protagonist’s apartment and how the walls of his apartment vibrate with this light.
Inside/ upside is a project that tries to break down the fiction of everyday life, aiming to show, through film, that our idea of everyday life is a construction. Thus, our daily routine is dismantled in search of concrete similarities with certain cinematographic scenes. In this way, cinematographic construction can be found in everyday life.
Based on this reflection, the room reveals, on the one hand, the physical structure of the sign and the light emitted by it and, on the other hand, the interior glow within and around the buildings.
